Booms (Gross pollutants, weeds, sediment)
Stormwater Systems booms are designed to trap large volumes of floating gross pollutants in open waterways, including canals, creeks and rivers. They are ideal, cost-effective solutions to retain huge volumes of visible floating materials for easy collection.
The booms target a variety of pollutants, including rubbish, silt, weeds and oil. With silt and sediment from upstream sources a serious problem in many areas, new silt barrier booms are even more effective in retaining this material. The silt and heavier rubbish can then be removed using Stormwater Systems "spider" excavator.
Booms offer several important advantages for capturing floating pollution, large and small:
- Versatility. Can be installed in a wide range of settings, including harbours, rivers, creeks, ponds and canals.
- Extremely durable. Can be left in waterways for years without losing effectiveness.
- Low cost to clean and maintain, with individual parts readily replaceable if required.
Stormwater Systems can advise on the type and suitability of booms to suit individual requirements for pollutant capture. We can quickly install a boom that meets pollutant capture and other requirements.
There are several application examples displayed at right.
